Description:

Frederick James Elliott was a prolific watercolourist who specialised in marine subjects notably seascapes and ships. His official biography notes that he was active in Sydney from the 1890s to the 1920s but this painting of the H.M.S Queen Mary, a luxury liner which was seconded as a troop carrier during WWII, indicates that he continued his painting much closer to his death in Paddington (Sydney) in 1949.

  • This was one of a few paintings retained by Elliot that once that lined the walls of his Ormond Street Paddington terrace. They terrace and contents were sold by the family around 2010.
