Thought to be the sole surviving medal of this early educational institution. It is engraved on the front "Fort Academy / Kent Street North / Sydney" and on the reverse "the Prize / for / Diligence / Awarded to / George Bolton / May 6th 1843"

  • George Taylor, a former headmaster of St James Grammar School in Phillip Street Sydney, established the Fort Academy at his private premises at Church Hill in 1841. In 1843 he moved the school to Kent Street North the address and year noted on this medal where the school operated until its closure in 1849.
