Notes:
- This 'copper' Dump was fashioned from a 'Cartwheel Penny' to be passed off as a legitimate Dump or Fifteen Pence. As a contemporary forgery it pays homage to our convict past and has a significant place in Australian numismatics. All the recognised contemporary copper dumps that have surfaced were struck on the same pair of dies suggesting that just one forger was responsible. However some examples are more complete than others having either plain edges or simulated edge milling. This example has traces of milling. The coin has porous surfaces as it lay in the ground undiscovered until 1927 when Pitt Street, Sydney was excavated to build the City Circle Train Line.
