Welcome to Smalls Auctions 249. With all the troubles going on around the World it is not surprising that Gold is knocking on the door of a new record price. It seems to have settled in above USD $2,000 and it looks like it won’t take too long before it surpasses the all-time record of $2,135 it reached in December 2023. For those who are fascinated by its allure we have included in the Sale a massive 19.61 Troy oz natural Gold Nugget from the Coolgardie district of the Eastern goldfields of Western Australia. Of course, Gold has been a store of wealth for millennia and in the Sale we also have on offer two 50-gram vials of unrefined Gold Dust recovered from the shipwreck of the Royal Mail Steamer 'Douro' which sunk off the coast of Spain in 1882. We have tested the contents on our XRF Metal analyser, and they are extremely high carat. For the modern collector we have on offer two Coca-Cola Gold Sovereigns stuck in 1997 by the Perth Mint for a give-away competition. Each holds just under a quarter ounce of pure Gold. Another fascinating item in the Sale which is a Coolamon thought to be hand-painted by the Aboriginal artist Charlie (Tjaruru) Tjungurrayi (1925 - 99) in the 1960’s. Tjungurrayi is well-regarded artist represented in the collection of the National Museum of Australia. Coolamons were a carved dish used by the Australian Aborigines as a carrying vessel for water and foodstuffs and are now highly collectable. As usual there is a good selection of Australian and World coins and banknotes as well as Jewellery and other collectables. Smalls Auctions
