Auction 84 Highlights

Welcome to Smalls Auctions Sale 84.

This sale concentrates solely on Australian Coins and Banknotes. There is a fine selection of Pre-decimal coins mostly third-party graded and in the upper echelon in terms of condition. The run of high-grade threepences dated 1917, 1922, 1926 & 1935 all graded by PCGS MS65 lays a solid foundation for a collection of this denomination of George V coins.

There is also a good selection of key date copper coins and varieties including, two 1923 Halfpennies, six 1925 pennies and three 1946 pennies. These dates I am reliably informed are currently the coins du jour amongst collectors. There is also an interesting selection of modern issues many estimated at close to their underlying metal value.

A highlight of the banknote section is a 1988 Bicentennial $10 hand-signed by the two signatories, Robert Johnston the Governor of the Reserve Bank and Bernie Fraser who was then Secretary to the Treasury. Banknote collectors will be aware that Fraser was elevated to the position of Governor of the Reserve Bank after this issue and so his signature position changed. Several commemorative banknote issues round out the sale. These were mostly issued to commemorate Australia’s transition from paper to polymer.

We hope there is something in our Sale to add to your collection.
