Auction 68 Highlights

Welcome to Sale 68

In this sale we cover a number of interesting collector themes from Olympic memorabilia, Antique Copper-plate Maps and Prints, Masonic oddments, Japanese and Chinese Ivory Figures and Chinese and African Antiquities.

There is also a good selection of Jewellery items highlighted by a ‘Van Cleef and Arpels’ Star Sapphire Ring in 18ct White Gold. This item is modestly estimated considering it comes with a recent replacement valuation of AUD $45,850. For collectors of more classical jewellery we point you to the Amethyst and Diamond Brooch in an ornate 14ct Yellow Gold setting. It represents a superb piece of craftsmanship. There is also a selection of well-carved shell cameo brooches from a few deceased estates.

Also, in the Sale is a rare antique George 111 Sterling (0.925) Wine Funnel, the perfect gift for that ‘hard to buy for person’ or a ‘wine snob’ if you happen to have one in the family. For the teetotallers there is a magnificent William IV Teapot in Sterling Silver with the hallmarks of Charles Gordon, London, 1834.

Of special interest to musical aficionados is an extremely rare 19th Century Bavarian Parlour Guitar in original condition. I can’t play a note, but I am reliably informed that it produces an extremely sweet, mellow tone with a rich, voice-like cantabile sustain and clarity that suits it perfectly for a 19th Century Romantic repertoire.

All in all, a diverse offering for the discerning collector.
