Research suggests the entire mintage of GB 1827 Pennies were shipped to Van Diemen's Land to curtail a coin shortage, and so it can be presumed that the 'Anchor Counter-stamp' was applied in the Colony. Usually an anchor symbol relates to the Navy so this was possibly used locally as a Naval Stores Token. An intriguing piece of Australiana ripe for research.
