Welcome to Smalls Auction No.20 which offers an eclectic mix of coins, banknotes and collectables. Perhaps the highlight of the sale are the two unique uncut banknote sheets which were once the property of John Phillips the Deputy Governor of the Reserve Bank of Australia. Phillips was in charge of the bank for a few short months in 1989, but in that time was quick to issue $20 and $50 notes bearing his signature. This is the only time that a Deputy-Governor's signature has appeared on Australian banknotes and to mark the occasion Phillips retained the No. 1 uncut sheets of forty $20 notes and thirty-two $50 notes running from the first to the last serial prefixes. Needless to say they are of the utmost rarity.

Another hugely important item is the signed and dated letter of 1802 in the hand of Sir Joseph Banks. Banks is often referred to as the father of Australia due to his successful efforts in promoting its colonisation, and this letter mentioning his two main interests being the Colony of New South Wales and the subject of botany add to its historical significance.

The Australian coin section offers a complete run of florins in collectible grade. The proud achievement of a country gentleman, this collection offers the collector the opportunity to replace worn coins with eye appealing examples that won't overly stretch the budget.

There are also two dramatic 'wet-ink transfer' error banknotes that catch the eye as well as a popular selection of error coins. The off-metal aluminium-bronze planchet of an Australian 50c bears special mention as we believe this is the first example to be identified.

Once again there are plenty of other items of interest and we wish bidders the best of luck.
