Welcome to Smalls Auction No. 14 our first sale of 2017.

We thank all our customers who have supported us over the last year and we hope that you will continue to find items on offer that pique your interest.

One of the highlights of the sale is a strong selection of world coins with many high-quality coins of Central and South America and Great Britain. Collectors of Australian coins will not be disappointed with a large offering of coins to meet most budgets. Of interest are the 1952 and 1954 Proof Halfpennies which are very rare in FDC condition. These odd denomination proofs, which were not part of full year proof sets, were struck in single digit numbers and most, unlike these, have only survived in handled or impaired condition. Also, the 1939 ‘Roo’ reverse Halfpenny in a PCGS MS65BN holder is an ultra-rare variety in specimen-like condition. It was originally from the collection of H.C. Coombs a Governor of the Reserve Bank of Australia and was probably a presentation piece. Collectors with an interest in Australian pre-decimal coin varieties should visit the www.benchmarkcoincatalogue.com for more information.

Definitely an impressive presentation lot is the valuable silver urn with four matching goblets given by Florence the Countess Dowager of Kingston to a highly-regarded servant on the occasion of his Golden Wedding Anniversary in 1901.

The sale also contains an important cameo collection of ancient coins including a rarely seen gold aureus of the well-connected Matidia who was the daughter of Marciana, the sister of Trajan, and the mother-in law of Hadrian.

Perhaps the most unusual offering this month is an almost 20oz Gold Nugget from the Coolgardie gold fields. The Nugget is of a very high carat measuring 97.5% gold on our XRF scanner. It is highly unusual for such a large nugget to have survived and naming rights go to the successful bidder. However, if you are feeling lucky and are more interested in finding your own monster nugget we also have on offer in this sale a top-of-the-line Minelab GPX - 4500 Metal Detector.

We wish you Season’s Greetings and all the best for the New Year.

Happy Bidding
