Welcome to Smalls Auctions Sale No.56 This week we are offering a second chance to purchase items ‘handpicked’ from our previous 5 timed auctions. Items of note are high grade Australian Commonwealth Coins, Rare Australian Pre Decimal and Decimal Banknotes, Important Historical and Wartime items as well as a selection of Rare Books, Jewelry and Australian Medalets. One of the highlights of this 2nd chance auction is an ‘original’ piece of art that was drawn at the Western Front during World War I by the noted Australian artist Theodore Penleigh-Boyd. He found an old cartographers nib in the dirt and began to capture daily life at the Front on any available scrap of paper. He published the works in 1918 in the book ‘Salvage’ and a reproduction of the book is included with this rare item. Another item of note is the covered cup fashioned from an Emu Egg by the celebrated Melbourne silversmith William Edwards in around 1860. Edwards is often attributed with being the first to use the local Emu Egg as a substitute for Ostrich Eggs that were transformed into cups in England. A fine piece of Australiana. We hope you will find something in our sale to sate your unique tastes.
