Welcome to Smalls Auction No.12 an exciting mix of coins, banknotes and collectables.

The sale begins with a good range of desirable antique and vintage jewellery items, but undoubtedly the highlight of the Sale is the Australian 1930 Penny struck with a ‘London Obverse’ Die. This coin may lay claim to being the World’s rarest circulating copper coin. There are only three examples known and this coin, graded PCGS XF45, is easily the best. Almost as rare is the finest known Australian 1920 /./ ‘London Obverse’ Die Penny, a variety which remarkably was not discovered until this actual coin appeared in 2003 to create numismatic history. To date only about a dozen examples have been unearthed and none in as good a condition as this coin which is graded PCGS AU50. Both these rarities were part of the eponymous Benchmark Collection which was broken up in 2015.

As usual there is a wide selection of Australian coins and banknotes on offer, including rare specimens, as well as a fine selection of world coin minors, many from the famous Jerome Remick Collection.

With only weeks to go until the US elections we thought it timely to run a selection of autographs of previous Presidents and Presidential nominees of the Republican and Democratic parties. In view of recent events some of the most interesting are the signatures of Barry Goldwater, the Republican Party’s nominee in 1964, who is considered by many as the Donald Trump of his day. Like Trump he suffered from a lack of support from his own party, and in his contest with the Democratic nominee Lyndon B. Johnson, he picked up just six states, including his home state of Arizona where he just scraped home with 50.45% of the popular vote.

Also of interest in the sale is a collection of inexpensive European sporting medals with exquisite design details, a good selection of Australian historical medalets and badges as well as a range of other interesting collectables.

Good bidding.
