Welcome to Smalls Auctions Sale No. 44.

This month we offer a wide array of ethnographic collectables ranging from Chinese Antiquities, Australian Aboriginal Art, Artefacts from the Pacific Islands, African Tribal Masks as well as more recent Pop Culture.

Of special interest for the ‘Gold Bugs’ who are no doubt following the steady rise of the Gold price, which in recent days has broached AUD $2,000 for the first time, we draw attention to the natural ‘Gold Nugget’ from the Coolgardie District of Western Australia. This is a whopper, weighing in at 609.6gms or 19.60 Troy ounces of almost pure gold. Naming rights go to the successful bidder.

As usual the Sale has a good selection of scarce high-grade coins and banknotes with particular attention drawn to the Australian ‘1915 H Florin’ in PCGS MS63. This coin in our opinion is under-graded as well as being an atypical strike. Astute collectors of the Australian Pre-Decimal coin series will be well aware that the small mintage of 1915 Florins struck at the ‘Heaton Mint’ are usually an atrocious strike even on high-grade examples, whereas this coin exhibits the superior details of an early strike which would normally be associated  with a ‘specimen.’ Unlike Gold, Silver has yet to make its run so perhaps the collector value of the ‘Sydney 2000 Olympics Proof Silver Kilo coins’ will be outstripped by their intrinsic value in the near future.

There are also interesting cameo selections of small antiques, fine jewellery, historical medals and stamps to satisfy most tastes.

Happy Bidding
