Welcome to Smalls Auctions Sale 179. In this Sale we are taking a stroll down memory lane with an extensive selection of Historical Medals and Medalets commemorating pivotal events in Australian and World History. There are silver and bronze versions of the 1867 Prize Medals struck for the ‘Paris Universal Exhibition’ at which the ‘Products of New South Wales’ were first displayed to the World. There is also an impressive 15ct Gold Medallion struck in 1901 for Sydney’s celebrations held for the formation of the ‘Commonwealth of Australia.’ In 1916 a Gold Fob was struck in 9ct Gold to recognise the Australian Commonwealth Military Forces that were stationed at Salisbury Downs in England during WWI. This camp was the staging post for Australian troops before their deployment to the Front. And following the Great War, there is a Prize Medal for the 1920 ‘All Australian Peace Exhibition still in its original presentation box. War certainly brings about very strange bedfellows and in around 1940 the Sydney medallists Amors struck a medal for Josef Stalin promoting ‘Democracy Honors a Great Leader.’ In the jewellery section the Sale also includes some well carved Jade pendants strung on Chinese Silk Chokers. They are well worth a look as is the small selection of eclectic collectables, antiques and silverware on offer. We hope you find something in your areas of interest Smalls Auctions
