Welcome to Smalls Auction 21.

As usual there is a fine selection of jewellery to open the sale before moving into a wide variety of highly desirable collectables. The Aboriginal dot painting by Bill ‘Whiskey’ Tjapaltjarri is worth special mention as works by this artist are relatively rare and highly coveted.

Also on offer is an outstanding selection of Australian Commonwealth coins with an extraordinary fifteen coins qualifying as the single or equal finest known. There are also some high-grade World coins important to Australia’s history with examples having circulated in the fledgling Colony of New South Wales under Governor King’s Proclamation of 1800. Other important World coins of note are a superb Portuguese 1834 Gold Peca in PCGS MS63, and the well matched 1934 Mauritius Matte Proof coins which are the only complete set to be third-party graded.

The Banknote section includes some high-grade Australian Pre-decimal notes as well as a strong selection of Crisp Flat Uncirculated Australian Decimal Star Replacement notes, most with evident Original Paper Quality. There is also a selection of rare Australian Specimen banknotes which have been third-party graded by PCGS, as well as high-grade examples of the rare Hay (Australia) Internment Camps Banknotes from World War II that are also PCGS graded. These notes were designed and printed by the Jewish internees and contain hidden messages protesting their unjust imprisonment.

Sports fanatics should look no further than the £5 Reserve Ticket to the ‘Burns v Johnson’ World Heavyweight Fight. Long before Mohamed Ali (Cassius Clay) championed black rights, the American negro Jack Johnson shook the world of the white supremacists to the core when he slugged it out for victory against the white Canadian World Champion Tommy Burns on Boxing Day 1908 at Rushcutters Bay, Sydney. Johnson’s galling victory led to a seven-year search for the ‘Great White Hope’ to reclaim the title for the white man.

Best of luck with your bidding.
