Welcome to Smalls Auctions Sale 34.

We are often asked what constitutes a good investment in collectables and our simple answer is always items of rarity and quality. If few of an item have survived then it will be chased by the many looking to complete their collections and, if it is one of the finest surviving examples then it only adds to its desirability. This month we offer a selection of rare Australian coins many the are the sole finest or equal finest known.

The Australian 1930 Penny has long been the ‘pin-up’ copper coin of collectors’ the world over and, in our sale, we offer an affordable example of this rarity.  Even rarer is the 1852 ‘Cracked Die’ Adelaide Pound graded PCGS AU58 which it is amongst the top few of the fifty-odd surviving examples.

The Australian Pre-decimal coin series is admirably represented with the finest known examples of the 1918 I Halfpenny, 1923 Threepence and the 1926 and 1931 florins, while the 1914 Sixpence, 1917 Sixpence, 1933 Shilling and the 1913, 1921 and 1938 florins are recognised as the equal finest known. Additionally, there are quite a few others such as the 1922 Shilling and the 1914 H Florin which are in the top handful of surviving examples and you can add to the shopping list the unique 1939 ‘Type B - Kangaroo Reverse’ Proof Halfpenny PSGS PR65 BN which is the ultimate rarity.

The Sale opens with a strong selection of jewellery and small collectables, runs through a strong selection of world coins and stamps and concludes with a remarkable run of autographs of the 20th Century Prime Ministers of Great Britain. All in all, a very diverse offering with something that should appeal to all.
