Welcome to Smalls Auctions Sale No. 93. In view of the continuing interest in gold and silver we have decided to concentrate again on this area but with a greater focus on collectables rather than an item’s intrinsic worth. There are rare Australian Gold Sovereigns including two first date 1855 Sydney Mint Sovereigns and an 1872 M ‘Medal Alignment’ Shield Reverse Sovereign. The latter is so rare there wasn’t an example in the famed ‘Quartermaster Collection’ of Australian coins which trumpeted that it was ”the most comprehensive collection of Australian Ingots, Patterns, Proofs, Sovereigns & Half Sovereigns ever collected by a private collector or public institution.” Also worthy of mention is the 1799 'Ayrshire' Gold Pattern Sixpence graded NGC MS65 which featured the portrait of the Prince of Wales who was also the Seneschal (Judicial Steward) of Scotland and was struck without regal authority by the great Scottish enthusiast Colonel Fullerton. The English loyalist Sir Joseph Banks protested to King George III that he was being ‘dissed’ and the dies were quickly decommissioned to avoid further trouble. The prospect of a stint in the Tower of London can douse the flames of even the most fervent Scotsman. The jewellery items on offer represent exceptional value starting very close to their intrinsic worth with little added for the gemstones they contain. There is also an interesting cameo selection of world coins for consideration. Happy bidding Smalls Auctions.
